2008 COMBAT SCHEDULE

5/29/08 Combat Report:  A good night Thursday; 10 pilots (all at the same time) flew a total of 58 flights.  Two broken motor mounts, one fractured carb, and the usual dinged-up corroplast - - no tractors this week!
Some struggles continue fine-tuning the Magnum engines.  (And when you do get it right, someone knocks you out of the sky!)  Rob is the new leader (shoot for him next time).

Because flying opportunities may be limited, we have reduced the number of flights required to be rated from 20 to 12.  Due to the number of pilots (15) flying combat, we may have to go to a "fly two - sit one out" format.  Last time we had 13 and flew groups of 6 and 7, but most people only got three flights.  This week we flew everyone together (11), but it was pretty crowded if all the planes made it up.  We'll experiment over the next few sessions and come up with a point at which we should "platoon" our flights.

Thanks for your interest,

May 1, 2008 - Combat report:  Lots of wind but no rain.  Hard to keep the planes up in the air, much less do any real chasing.  But we got 4 flights in despite the weather.  The wind blew a couple planes behind the flight line, but there weren't any disasters.

FINAL RESULTS OF THE

2007-2008 WINTER

COMBAT SCHEDULE

Last Saturday  was the last week of the Winter Combat schedule.  We will start Summer Combat on Thursday, April 10th at 5:30 pm.

We had ten Pilots participate this session, even though some only flew last fall when the weather was still nice.  We never got 'cancelled' by Mother Nature, and Rob Wink and Paul Wachholz showed up for every mission (Paul was 'grounded' for several weeks with mechanical problems, but he was still there!).

We put 252 planes in the air, cut 118 ribbons, and had 23 planes come down due to mid-airs.  About 2/3 of the pilots returned safely from their 'mission'; with 31% unable to stay in the air the full five minutes.

Mike La Pacz is the Winter Combat Ace for 2008.  He completed over 3/4 of his missions and scored a "kill' almost 85% of the time.  He accumulated 202 points in 57 flights, averaging over 3½ points per flight.  Nice flying!

Enjoy your sweet victory Mike, because on April 10th we all start with zero for the new season!  Some of the newer pilots have gained valuable combat experience over the cold, hard winter and will be looking to knock you off your throne this summer!

Remember, all Club members are welcome (and encouraged) to participate, watch, kibitz, harass and otherwise take part in the combat sessions.  See the schedule listed on our website for dates and times.
